District + Regional Planning

Integrating networks, systems and communities

District + Regional Planning

As cities become more interconnected with their surrounding regions, our planning and design work has come to embrace larger areas and to address the "big picture" at the regional scale. Increasingly it no longer makes sense to focus on the requirements of an individual municipality, as the issues crucial to the creation of sustainable and vibrant communities operate at the regional level. Transit, transportation and water usage systems, for example, often cross-multiple jurisdictions.

Our regional planning work takes on the challenge of integrating vast networks, independent systems and diverse jurisdictions to create coordinated visions that are truly holistic and forward-thinking. We provide strategic frameworks for planning and municipal decision making that take advantage of regional synergies, avoid conflicts and duplications, and create more efficient regional networks. We provide methods for bringing jurisdictions together to make choices that resonate throughout larger areas, and to insure planning strategies are effective at the regional scale. Our work allows local municipal decisions take into consideration regional implications and helps jurisdictions to communicate in meaningful ways that promote sustainable planning.
