Biopolis Phase V
Singapore
Completion Date: TBD
Square Footage: 63,000

This 7-story biosciences research facility is located on the Biopolis campus masterplanned by Zaha Hadid. It was conceived as “a building in the garden and a garden in the building.”

The three themes of field, finger and flora comprise the conceptual design of the facility creating a single vision. The urban face on the building’s east side is a unified field that wraps around to the southern face joining with a series of exterior gardens to the west. This facade creates a dynamic formal front door to the east presenting the main body of the building that transforms into a series of east-west building fingers in response to the program.

The north and east faces embody the built urban edge facing the developed science community while the west and south faces symbolize the green garden edge facing the future residential community and park creating a dynamic relationship between building form and open sky garden. The result is an environment that fosters community interaction in indoor and outdoor spaces and maximizes comfort and sustainability without sacrificing efficiency and flexibility.
