Academic Health Sciences Master Plan
Miami, Florida
The Academic Health Sciences Center occupies a 30-acre precinct at the northeast corner of Florida International University's 344-acre Modesto Maidique main campus. Programs planned within the precinct include the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Arts and Sciences, and Public Health and Social Work. FIU's integrated interdisciplinary approach to education, training, research and healthcare starts on campus and extends into the community with a focus on improving the overall level of healthcare in the region. The majority of the university's growth over the next 20 years, will likely be in the academic health sciences. Our master plan has developed a coherent and identifiable precinct that accommodates 2.6 million square feet of integrated facilities that are flexibly configured and operationally efficient to respond to rapidly changing market environments of academic health sciences and the health care industry. The plan also enhances the interactive relationships between the clinical, educational and research components of the center and the community.
