The adaptive re-use of the 100-year-old graphic arts building in downtown Worcester was an important catalyst for the city's urban revitalization plans. We worked closely with the Worcester Historical Commission to carefully weave a modern use and contemporary expression into the revival of this historic structure.

This is a mixed-use academic project, with eight floors renovated for academic teaching and residence space and a ninth floor addition housing the trustee boardroom, executive dining, outdoor terrace and galley. Two levels of multi-purpose classrooms, conference areas and teaching laboratories support the health sciences program. These laboratories recreate hospital environments for "experiential instruction" and include an intensive care unit, patient beds and state-of-the-art imaging technology. Student-oriented retail tenants have brought new vitality to the street level.
