We were commissioned to perform planning services for MD Anderson Cancer Center. MD Anderson is more than 8 million square feet and is located on 63 acres and four major areas (Main Campus, Legacy Campus, Mid-Town Campus and South Campus) within the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The major goal of the planning effort is to knit together the currently disparate sites and planning initiatives into a comprehensive campus development master plan that is representative of the long-term vision of MD Anderson.

Initially, we concentrated on the short-term (2004–2006) needs for the institution. This effort focused on the re-validation of all previous planning studies and integrated the current on-going, high priority research, education and patient care projects. We used the statistics generated by MD Anderson's "Economic Growth Model" to understand how the operational and programmatic volumes manifested themselves into physical planning, design and policy guidelines.

Based on a comprehensive understanding of the existing and anticipated needs, we worked closely with MD Anderson to develop guiding principles and planning parameters that positively influence the on-going development of the institution.
