NIH Campus Sustainability
Various Locations
Completion Date: On-going since 2007

We provide architectural, engineering and technical writing services to assist the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Office of Research Facilities Development and Operations (ORF-DO) in implementing initiatives to improve sustainable design, operations and maintenance of laboratories and other bio-medical facilities owned or operated by NIH. We teamed with Integral Group and worked to manage and implement green initiatives on all NIH campuses. Our primary role is to assist in the creation, implementation and execution of specific programs, policies and assessments to assure NIH will achieve compliance with all current and future federal sustainability requirements and mandates. Our ultimate goal is to bring NIH into compliance with several federal mandates and regulations, including Executive Order (E.O.) 13423, E.O. 13514, EPAct 2005, EISA 2007 and the Guiding Principles.

Our plan to achieve compliance focuses on both campus-wide policies and specific building recommendations and includes the registration and certification of 37 buildings on four NIH campuses under the LEED EB Operations + Maintenance rating system. To manage this process, we integrated LEED EB Operations + Maintenance credit requirements and overall tracking for Federal Reporting into the existing NIH Environmental Management System. We also provide training, logistical support and assistance to ORF personnel with the management of these new sustainable programs and policies.
