Oak Ridges Community Centre
Richmond Hill, Ontario
Completion Date: 2011
Square Footage: 57,000

The evolving community of Oak Ridges centers on the naturalized shores of Lake Wilcox. The site for the proposed Oak Ridges Community Centre offers an uninterrupted green space that descends from Bayview Avenue to the Shoreline Road at the edge of Lake Wilcox.

The design for the new Oak Ridges Community Centre creates an architectural threshold at the crest of a rolling hill at the top of the slope near Bayview Avenue down to the lake's eastern shore.

The architectural plans and surrounding landscape design seek to maximize the potential of this site by connecting a series of pedestrian and vehicular interchanges but, at the same time, create a combination of recreational and naturalized landscape encompassing the facility.

In total, the Oak Ridges Community Centre has 57,000 square feet of floor space and houses a 6-lane swimming pool along with a 1,200 square foot teaching/leisure pool, gymnasium, fitness center, eco-center and multi-purpose program rooms.
