Oriental Fisherman's Wharf
Shanghai, China

Located on the Huangpu River in the Yangpu district of Shanghai, the Oriental Fisherman's Wharf project is one of the new developments planned for the World Exposition 2010. The 2 million SF (200,000 SM) project is comprised of four unique buildings sitting on top of a three-story infrastructure plinth. The buildings include a 40-story office and hotel tower, a seven-story themed retail destination, a four-story retail market and the renovation of an existing waterfront warehouse. Below grade infrastructure development includes two levels of parking, a subway station and an extensive retail promenade beneath the 38,000 SM site.

Designed as an architectural showpiece for Shanghai, the buildings herald the long history of fishing and the fishing industry in China. The project development resulted in several unique design opportunities. The master plan is designed to connect the people of Shanghai to the previously walled-off riverfront. The building massing provides a unique architectural experience not witnessed on the Huangpu riverfront and reciprocally creates a world-class shopping, entertainment, hospitality and culinary destination.

Overall, the project is a catalyst for re-development of this formally industrial district. The winning competition master plan included the above described phase one as well as future phases two and three. Perkins+Will is providing the architectural design services for this landmark development.
