Our planning efforts were guided by Simmons College's challenge of developing a comprehensive housing strategy that incorporates their resources of buildings, land and capital to provide their students with the range of housing types required by a first rate institution of higher education.
Simmons is located in the Fenway area of Boston, a lively academic area, where space is at a premium. The residential campus is home to approximately 1,100 students housed in nine buildings that date from the 1950s and 1960s.
We worked closely with Simmons College to develop a consensus-driven residential life program and master plan based on their institutional mission and goals. Our planning process involved inventory and assessment of available physical resources as well as evaluation of peer institutions and student expectations. The final plan included options for the best use of Simmons' resources and strategies for implementation as well as opportunities for future growth.
