Over 60,000 people from across the country participated in Slow Food Nation in San Francisco over the 2008 Labor Day weekend, celebrating the birth of a broad and growing inclusive food movement that is seeking to build a food system that is sustainable, just, and delicious.
Slow Food Nation volunteered to help make the non-profit event a reality by designing the master plan for the Civic Center, which hosted a large part of the gathering, including a central Victory Garden and Farmer’s Market. The event was not only a great place to pick up tasty treats, but also to learn how local food and water are better for both body and planet. In addition to the master plan, Perkins+Will designed the event’s main water station, in partnership with Food + Water Watch’s Take Back the Tap campaign, promoting the use of safe tap water over bottled water.
