The Ottawa Hospital Regional Cancer Centre underwent expansion with development of a new ambulatory centre at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, The Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre. The stand-alone facility provides four new radiation treatment rooms and 31 new chemotherapy treatment stations. The centre explores the regional vernacular, developing an architectural language of the Outaouais and Ottawa Valley. The building design is non-institutional, creating a comfort for patients and family through the use of natural materials and a design palette drawn from their home and environs. Sustainability features include two roof gardens and the provision of natural light into many areas.

The centre delivers comprehensive oncology services for the growing population in the west of Ottawa. Infused with daylight and natural materials, the centre re-imagines the image of a healthcare institution while supporting a variety of complex medical technologies. These include radiation treatment equipment, CT scanners and a full service pharmacy for systemic therapy. The facility also includes a patient counseling suite. The building design and placement was integrated into the National Capital Commission greenbelt plan for the region providing a new concept of a ìPavilion in the Landscapeî. The team planned for future expansion of the facility to respond to changing demands.
