The D2 Trauma Unit is a 7,200 square foot renovation to an existing patient floor at the Civic Hospital. The staff desired a design that allowed for high visibility of patients and seamlessly integrated complex technology while addressing the needs of patient comfort and wellness.

The architectural solution was to pair spacious private trauma rooms with small satellite nurse stations. The nurse stations incorporate mullion-free glass to allow for continued visual contact between patients and staff. Natural materials, such as cedar wood, were used to define spaces. Natural light filters to the interior corridor through the liberal use of glass. Spaces flow naturally and create a feeling of warmth and well-being.

The result is a sophisticated, yet warm and comforting patient environment that incorporates technology with staff and patient needs.
