Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies
Port St. Lucie, Florida
Completion Date: 2008
Square Footage: 102,000
LEED NC 2.2 Silver Certified

Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies was founded in 1988 in San Diego, California with more than 100 scientists performing cutting-edge research. In 2006, Torrey Pines Institute embarked on an expansion into Florida. This endeavor was made possible through the support of the State of Florida, the City of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County, the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, Tradition Development, LLC (Core Communities).

The institute's headquarters in Florida is a 102,000 square foot, LEED certified facility in the Florida Center for Innovation at Tradition in Port St. Lucie. With the installation of only FSC certified wood products (wood grown and developed using responsible forestry management techniques), Torrey Pines helped to reduce the negative impact of irresponsible forest practices. The building also consists of construction materials that were extracted and manufactured within the region. Materials such as metal framing, gypsum wallboard, concrete and rebar were used for the construction of the building, thereby supporting the use of local resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation.

Completed in 2008, the mission of Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies is to pursue innovative research that leads to the understanding and treatment of major medical conditions including multiple sclerosis, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, pain, arthritis, heart disease and many types of cancer.
