We were commissioned to provide master planning studies for UCLA's new Center for Health Sciences (CHS) campus located in Westwood as well as the Santa Monica Hospital-UCLA (SMH-UCLA) campus in Santa Monica. The study included the development of a physical master site plan, planning and massing studies, and a phasing plan for a new academic medical complex at the university. Associated issues include future models for clinical care, physician network planning, information systems, medical education, research, site evaluation and financial models.

An architectural and engineering review of UCLA's CHS and SMH-UCLA conducted after the 1994 Northridge earthquake recommended the replacement of major portions of both of the complexes as the most cost-effective way to ensure continued operation of the facilities in the event of a future large earthquake.

The master plan project was completed in 120 days, per an accelerated schedule mandated by the University.

We, in association with I.M. Pei, Pei Partnership Architects and RBB Architects, Inc., also were chosen to design and construct the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
