The new Clinical Translational Research Building (CTRB) is an interdisciplinary research facility serving the Clinical Translational Science Institute programs at the University of Florida (UF) and Shands HealthCare. With its strong, dynamic culture of individuals collaborating to make advances in medicine, the CTRB pushes the implementation of science from “bench to bedside” to “bedside to curbside.” At its center are the core values of innovation, transformation and transparency. On a microcosmic scale within the facility, data is transformed from reference to research to implementation. On a national scale, the CTRB positions itself as a national leader in data collection and translation, a progressive institution that evolves and transforms with need and time. Phase One is planned at 39,500 square feet and Phase Two is planned at 80,500 square feet.
Phase One houses primarily clinical, educational, support and office spaces for the University of Florida Institute on Aging (IOA). This new facility is designed to host the field operations and coordination of large phase 3 behavioral and pharmacological multi-center trials in the area of aging and disability. It serves as the home for a number of active research training programs on aging with a primary focus on assessing the long-term effects of proposed interventions, which specifically include moderate physical exercise and health education. The IOA serves as the major catalyst for developing models and synergisms in aging and geriatric medicine research, education and health care across all colleges and departments at the University of Florida.
We are aggressively pursuing a LEED Platinum certification with the USGBC, incorporating sustainable design concepts that take into consideration Carbon Neutral goals and Living Building Challenge criteria.
