We prepared the predesign and master plan for the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in conjunction with Vulcan Development. The 750,000 square foot South Lake Union complex covers two city blocks and will be built in three phases. The project unites biomedical laboratories, bioinformatics labs, genomics research, administrative offices and support spaces.
Phase I was a renovation of the 1961 Blue Flame building that resulted in a new structure of an additional 320,000 square feet of office space and 120,000 square feet of research and biomedical space to accommodate the expanding needs of the School of Medicine. The complex unites biomedical laboratories, bioinformatics labs, genomics research and 40,000 square feet of lab space. Also included in Phase I was a parking structure for 570 cars.
