The siting and design of this residence hall is based on the residential master plan that we completed in 2003. The building responds to its tight urban site by carefully preserving and creating green space. The new residence courtyard provides a pocket-park setting and added security for students. Tetlow Park's kinetic sculpture gives new prominence to the residence’s entry court.
In scale, massing and materials the design preserves a delicate balance between the adjacent and contemporary classroom building at Massachusetts College of Art and Wentworth’s classically formal academic buildings. An extensive review process led to a design that met both the urban design expectations of Boston Civic Design Commission and the housing needs of Wentworth.
The 367-bed apartment-style residence is organized into 53 suites. Most of the suites feature three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and living/dining area. Common space includes a central living room, computer lab, game room, mailroom and laundry facilities. Group study rooms alternate with open lounge areas overlooking Tetlow Park at each level.
